Say Cheese

Make no mistake.  I love my digital SLR.  It’s a Canon.  I love Canon, anyway. I have a Canon printer, scanner and, of course, my beloved DSLR.

This is supposed to be a hobby but in fact is really an obsession. I never want to go anywhere without my camera. Sometimes it’s a pain to drag it around. It does, after all, weigh some. After a few hours of it hanging around your neck, it starts to hurt.

I’m an idiot.  Of that there is no doubt.  Back in June when we were paying our dues for the upcoming Camera Club year, I also signed up for “entertainment committee”, thinking I’d be able to plan parties, of which there have been many over the years.

As it turned out, what I’d signed up for was doing the coffee and cookies at meetings.  It doesn’t sound like much but I’m here to tell you, nobody likes doing it.  You have to set the tables at the back of the hall.  You have to get out the huge coffee percolator and schlep it from the kitchen to the serving tables.  You have to have the tea kettle going and set out the cups, cream and sugar, tea, stirrers, bottles of water, juice as well as napkins and cookies.  Sometimes cake, as well.

During break time, you get swarmed with people wanting their treats.  When break time and socializing time is over, they all sit down again and watch the rest of the presentation while I’m stuck cleaning up, putting away etc.  It’s a lot of sweaty work.  I have a woman to help me but she can’t always be there. 

Next time, I’ll play dumb.  But since I made a commitment, I guess I’ll have to see it through.
